Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés, a Jungian psychoanalyst, poet, and storyteller, traces the wild woman archetype throughout her book. She wrote this book to support women in their profound healing journeys and provide a guiding compass. Traditional psychology, she felt, lacked female archetypes, with male figures often taking center stage. Through the characters and symbols in her stories, she offers systematic guidance to reclaim lost aspects of oneself, tools to regain sovereignty, and pathways to return to one's true essence. Her work aims to empower women to lead soulful lives where their unique gifts flourish, enabling them to reclaim their voices and minds.

Archetypes, a term we will be using throughout the course, are symbolic images used in myths and stories to illuminate human experiences. They help us navigate our inner landscapes and understand unconscious aspects that shape our self-perception and worldview. Examples like the Hero, the Inner Child, and the Inner Critic resonate deeply because these archetypes reside within us all. Although universal, archetypes manifest uniquely across cultures, historical periods, and narratives, reflecting the diverse tapestry of human existence.

Session 2 (2 September) - The story of Bluebeard - knowing the predator that lives inside and outside of our psyche. The story teaches us to be curious and helps us shed nativity.

Session 3 (9 September) - The story of Vasalisa the Wise - the importance of listening to your intuition as a key element that allows the Wild Woman to thrive in life, a way to be discerning and let the Too-good Mother archetype die.

Session 4 (16 September)  The story of Manawee - the power of keeping the ego and soul-self integrated and looking at the most common distractions that take us away from our soul work.

Session 5 (September 23) - The story of Skeleton Woman - learning about life/death/life nature. How to let go of what must die, and let, live what must live. How to love the not-so-beautiful.

Session 6 (September 30) The story of the Ugly Duckling - the power of endurance to keep going despite the harshness and not settling until one finds the community they belong with. The archetype of the mother and that of the unmatched child.

Session 7 (October 7) The story of the Red Shoes - knowing that a woman needs a handmade life. A wild woman has to have a life made by the soul and for the soul. When our life is not made by or for the soul, we become trapped and develop unhealthy addictions. The story serves as a warning of what not to do.

Session 8 (October 14)The story of Sealskin, Soulskin - the wild woman knows the importance of soul life and knows to create the time to spend there. It’s a story of integrating the inner and the outer life

Session 9 (October 21) The story of La Llorona - the importance of nurturing your creative life; a wild woman has an integrated animus (masculine) who cares for and protects her creative life.

Session 10 (October 28) The story of the Crescent Moon Bear – righteous rage as a teacher; knowing when to be enraged and draw boundaries, end relationships, etc. The deeper understanding that no magic pill/no single solution will save you.

Session 11 (November 4) The story of The Woman With Hair of Gold - The wild woman does not carry shameful secrets, as a wild woman cannot live in the psyche with a dead zone that shameful secrets create. The story of secrets, the matrilineal lineage, and turning wounds into scars.

Session 12& 13 (November 11 & Oct 18) The story of the Handless Maiden - the complete journey of women’s lives and the integration of the feminine with the masculine.

Session 14 (November 25) The Wolf's Eyelash, Story as Medicine and The Deep Song - an overview of the course and the book's final passages to mark the end of our course.
